There are a number of factors we look at to help determine your rate. For instance:

  • Number of past claims
  • Information about you (e.g. how many years you’ve been a licensed driver)
  • Traffic violations (e.g. speeding tickets)
  • Also, each province has government regulators that oversee how prices are determined by insurance companies (though, this doesn’t apply in Quebec).

It’s a whole lot of math and statistics. Basically, we look at a complex set of factors that determine your rate. For instance:

  • Where your home is located
  • Home structure, age, heating equipment, etc.
  • Size of your home
  • Number of past claims
  • Information about you (age, etc.)

Along with the usual questions about you and your vehicle, we’ll also ask you for your driver’s licence number (to get information about your driving and claims history) as well as your vehicle’s VIN (vehicle identification number). Oh, and don’t worry – your information is secure and won’t be shared with or sold to anyone else.

This means that we use the latest security standards and encryption technology to keep your information safe. In a nutshell, encryption technology “scrambles” your private information so it becomes unreadable to anyone else. You have three payment methods to choose from – credit card, bank withdrawal or PayPal™.

Contact your broker or insurance provider and let them know you plan to cancel. You may be asked to submit a request in writing to confirm your cancellation.

It helps to have on hand the following information:

  • Insured’s name(s)
  • Policy number
  • Insurance company name
  • Cancellation date

Be sure to set up your new coverage before you cancel to make sure you’re always protected.
