3 ways to update your space over the weekend
Painting walls to update home

Do you feel like the idea of making over a room is daunting? Maybe you feel like you don’t have the time to do it properly, or you don’t have a big enough budget to make the changes you want. The good news is that, depending on the size and scope of your ideas, it can actually be easy to update any room in your home in just a few days. Today we’re sharing a few easy ways to update your space over the weekend at minimal cost and effort!

1. Refresh with paint

There are many ways paint can make a big difference to a space, from simply painting the walls to getting creative. Let’s say you have a dark basement full of wood panelling – a fresh coat of white paint with the right primer can really brighten the space. Or perhaps you have a tiny bland powder room that could use some life. Stencilling a simple pattern on the walls can add interest in relatively little time.

And let's not forget about your furniture – maybe you have an old hutch that could use a makeover. Consider painting its back wall with a pop of colour to give it new life. Since we’re thinking outside the traditional box, what about your doors? Painting the front door or highlighting an interior door with a pop of pale blue can inject personality into your whole home, and can be done in as little as an hour.

2. Light up your world

Lighting is so important these days. Today we like to have options for our lighting, as we like to change it up to match our mood throughout the day. Lighting is an easy update to do over the weekend that can have a big impact on your home. Whether you make a small change (like switching the lightbulbs to a warmer tone and flanking the sofa with two lamps) or a large one (like installing a sputnik chandelier in the dining room), these changes can really make an impression and are surprisingly quick to do. Installing a new ceiling light can feel intimidating but the process is fairly simple – go slowly and read the directions, and within no time you’ll be enjoying the new ambience in your space.

3. Change up those accessories

Accessories are an easy way to update a room and to try out a new trend without any permanent decisions, plus making small changes to your home accessories can make your space feel brand new. Think about picking up a few different pillows for your living room, finding a new mirror for the powder room, or installing some decorative door knobs – these are all little upgrades that can really refresh a living space.

If you’re not sure where to start, there are many affordable eDesign services available that can produce 3D renderings of your space or provide a quick moodboard to help guide your shopping experience. A good tip when shopping for accessories: get a cart and grab things that speak to you. Make sure you have a general colour palette in mind, then lay out your finds and eliminate things that visually don’t work. Trust your gut and don’t select anything you don’t like in the store – you won’t like it at home either.

Good luck with your weekend makeovers! Remember that small changes can have a big impact, so don’t stress and have fun!
