Step-by-step guide: How to get a home & auto quote

Sonnet is a completely digital insurance company – we use new technology that means you don’t have to answer many questions to get an accurate quote that’s tailored to you. Quoting and purchasing coverage is all completed online. Follow our step-by-step guide to help you get your Sonnet bundled home and auto quote.

Step 1:
The first page you'll see is “Tell us about yourself and your place”. Here, we want to know your property type and whether you own, rent, or rent it out. Also, enter your address as it is recognized by Canada Post. Your address should pre-populate as you enter it into the field. Then, enter in your first and last name, plus your date of birth. Click Continue.

Heads up! You’ll need to be the owner of the property to get a quote under your name – if you're renting, this doesn’t apply to you.

Step 2:
The next page is titled “Is this correct?”. We've used technology to provide us with information about your house. Here, you simply need to verify and alter what we’ve filled in. (If you’re getting a condo or tenant quote, no need to verify house details.) Then, enter your coverage start date – this is when you’d want your home insurance to start.

On this page, you can also add a group discount to see if you qualify for any further price reductions to your quote.

Don’t forget to read the consent statement! We need your permission to check your claims history and credit score (this allows us to make sure we provide you with both an accurate and best priced quote). Then, click Continue.

Heads up! You’ll need to agree with the consent statement to proceed with the quote.

Step 3:
Success, you have now completed your home quote! You’ll be able to view your quote after you’ve completed your auto quote. Click Continue to move on to entering the details for your vehicle.

Step 4:
The next page you'll see is titled “What are you driving?”. Here, we want to know all about your vehicle – the make/model, where it’s parked, and what it’s used for.

Heads up! For the first question, enter in the year for the vehicle first – you’ll get a drop-down list as you keep entering in the vehicle information. Your address will pre-populate as the same one you entered for your home quote.

If you have more than one vehicle, be sure to click on “Add another vehicle”. Enter your coverage start date – this is when you’d want your insurance to start. Then, click Continue.

Step 5:
Up next is “Tell us about yourself”. Here’s where you enter your personal information. You can also add a group discount here as well to see if you qualify for any further savings on your quote (if you entered a group discount during your home quote, we’ll pre-populate the same discount for your auto quote if available). You’ll need to agree with the consent statement again here to proceed with the quote. Then, click Continue.

Heads up! You must be the vehicle owner to get a quote. If you’re just a driver, the vehicle owner will need to enter in their information here.

Step 6:
On the following page, you’re asked if there are any other drivers in your home. If there are (even if they live away sometimes) click on “Add another driver”. If you’re the only driver in the household, click on View your quotes.

Heads up! Make sure you read the consent statement below “View your quotes”. This is where we verify the information you’ve provided to us.

Step 7: Next, we’ll walk you through the process of assigning drivers to the vehicles on your policy.

Step 8:
The next page can be different depending on a few circumstances – if you see a screen that says “Almost there!", we just need you to enter in a few key pieces of information that we were unable to collect automatically from the databases we use. Once you’ve done so, click View your quotes. If don’t see this page, it means there's one less step for you – skip to step 8.

Step 8:
Success! You now have both your home and auto quotes that are catered specifically to you. The quotes display the cost for the coverages that are shown below. Click View and customize to see your quotes in more detail and to be able to make changes to your coverages.

Step 9:
You’ll first land on the “Customize your coverage details” page for your home quote – here, we explain all the coverages in detail to help you understand how you’d be covered. Click on each coverage to learn more about it. Also, you can customize the coverage limits and deductibles – you’ll see the quote reflect any changes made. Once you have set the coverage to your needs click View and customize to continue to your auto coverage.

Step 10:
Here is the “Customize your auto coverage details” page for your auto quote – again, we explain all the auto coverages in detail to help you understand how you’d be covered. Click on each coverage to learn more about it. Also, you can customize the coverage limits and deductibles – you’ll see the quote reflect the changes.

Step 11:
Once you’re happy with your coverage, click on Buy now to purchase it. Or, if you’re not ready to buy it, you can click Save quote to come back later – all you’ll need to do is enter your email address and we’ll send you an email with a link that brings you directly to your saved quote.
