Do I need additional coverage for higher-value items?
It might be a good idea. Whether it’s your engagement ring or your top-of-the-line bicycle, you want to be sure your high-value stuff is covered.

One way to add extra coverage is by increasing the set Custom Limits for your special belongings. For instance, if you currently have the Basic option ($3,000 per item, up to a total of $10,000), you can upgrade to the next level ($10,000 per item, up to a total of $50,000). There are two more levels you can choose from if you need more coverage. Plus, upgrading your Custom Limits can also qualify you for our Above and Beyond home coverage.
To increase your set limits for your special belongings:

  1. Log in to your Sonnet account and click on the policy you want to change.
  2. Select Edit policy.
  3. From the options that appear, pick Update coverage and the date you want the change to take effect.
  4. Click on Personal Belongings. Here, you can change your Special Belongings Coverage. To do so, select your desired coverage level under Custom Limits package.
  5. Click Update policy to make the change.
Heads up! If you have a tenant or a landlord policy, this set limit cannot be increased above the Basic option ($3,000 per item, up to a total of $10,000).

If these options don’t quite cover it, you can add separate coverage for specific items. This coverage would be over and above your Personal Belongings coverage and is commonly referred to as scheduling an item. Just keep in mind, if you have a loss worth $10,000 or more, actual cash value may be used to determine the cost of your claim. This could apply if you don’t want to repair or replace the item or if the item can’t be replaced with a new version.

To add this extra coverage for a specialty belonging:

  1. Log in to your Sonnet account and click on your policy.
  2. Select Edit policy
  3. From the options that appear, pick Update coverage and the date you want the change to take effect.
  4. Click Add item. We will ask you for a few details about your belonging, including what it is and its value, so be sure to have this info ready. Once these details are entered, click Add item one more time.
  5. Click Update policy to make the change.
Heads up! Items are only able to be scheduled under a homeowners, condo (when owner-occupied), or tenant policy.
