If you are preparing to evacuate

If you live in the surrounding area of the wildfires but have not yet been told to evacuate, there are preparations you can make now in case you need to leave your home.

Put together an emergency kit that includes water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit. Keep this in your car so you have it with you in case of evacuation. Have a bag packed with an extra set of clothes, phone chargers, or any important materials so you are ready to take it with you when needed.

To protect your home in case of fire, keep all doors and windows closed. Turn off any propane and natural gas. Cover any vents in your home with duct tape.

If you have the time, try to document the belongings in your home by taking photos of each room. If you do have to evacuate and file an insurance claim, this will help ensure accurate information and ease the claims process during a difficult time.
