Is my iPad, laptop or mobile phone covered by my home insurance?

Yes. All three are typically covered under your personal belongings coverage that comes with your house insurance policy. Sonnet covers these items on the basis of Replacement Cost if they’re stolen, or if they’re damaged due to a covered event (like a fire). In a nutshell, this means we’ll replace your phone, laptop, tablet and even your smartwatch without deduction for depreciation.

Remember, you’ll still need to pay a deductible if you file a claim for your electronics. This might have an impact on whether or not you decide to file a claim, depending on the cost of your device. You should always make sure your contents insurance limit is high enough to cover all your personal property. This limit should include everything from what’s in your sock drawer to your widescreen TV.

Heads up! There’s a special limit for computer software and no coverage for the gathering or assembling of information or data for reproduction. The erasure of data also isn’t covered. There are a few other data-related losses that aren’t covered, so be sure to read your policy wordings carefully.
