How does Canada’s legalization of recreational cannabis affect my home and auto policies?

The legalization of cannabis across Canada has little effect on your coverage. From October 17, 2018, cannabis and paraphernalia has coverage under your home policy. Like some other items already included in your policy, cannabis and paraphernalia is covered up to a fixed dollar amount and subject to your deductible.

Here’s how you’re covered:

Homeowners: $250 limit on cannabis plants, and a $250 limit on cannabis equipment and paraphernalia.

Condo owners and tenants: $500 limit on cannabis plants and cannabis equipment and paraphernalia.

Please note: There are no changes to your auto coverage, though laws still apply for impaired driving.
