Does renters insurance cover theft outside the home?

Yes. At Sonnet, your tenant insurance covers your personal belongings if they’re stolen, whether they’re in your house or not.

For example, if someone steals your phone from a café, it’ll be covered for replacement cost under your tenant insurance policy. (Still, it’s always best not to leave your valuables unattended!) And that’s not all – your stuff is also covered if it’s stolen when you’re travelling. And what if someone breaks into your car and steals your gym bag? Personal items stolen from your vehicle are covered under your tenant insurance, too – whereas your car insurance covers items that are actually a part of your car (like the stereo that came with it).

Heads up! There is no coverage for theft or attempted theft by any tenant, roomer, boarder or member of your household.

Remember, you’ll still have to pay a deductible on any items stolen away from home. Check out our informative blog to find out more about deductibles.
