Is it easy to cancel my policy?

Yes – even though we hope you don't. Contact us first and we'll do our best to make things better.

If you still want to cancel your policy, please make sure that you have new coverage ready to go so you’re not left unprotected. You can then follow these steps to cancel your home policy in any province or your auto policy in Ontario and Quebec:

Heads up! We are unable to cancel a policy if there is currently a missed payment outstanding.

1. Log in to your Sonnet account and select the policy you’d like to cancel. 

2. Click Edit policy.

3. From the options that appear, select Cancel policy and Continue.

4. Select a cancellation date for your policy (sorry, we can't backdate your cancellation via your Sonnet account). We’ll also ask why you’re looking to cancel.

Heads up! If you have an upcoming payment scheduled on or around your selected cancellation date, this payment may still occur. 

5. Click Continue to cancellation details.

Heads up! Your cancellation may include a short rate cancellation charge if you are cancelling mid-term.

6. Check off that you provide your consent for the policy to be cancelled.

7. Click Continue.

8. Confirm that you’d like to cancel your policy by selecting Cancel policy.

Need to cancel an auto policy in Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or P.E.I.? Follow these steps:

7. Confirm that you’d like to cancel your policy by selecting Cancel policy.

No matter where and what policy you’re cancelling, depending on your cancellation date, we may owe you money or you might owe us. In either case, we’ll notify you via email if there is a credit or an amount owing. This email will be sent within two business days of your cancellation effective date. If a payment needs to be made, the email will indicate the final balance due and the scheduled payment date. A similar email will be sent if a credit is to be returned to you.

You’ll also continue to have access to your Sonnet account if you need to review your cancelled policy later on or if you want to get a new quote in the future.
