Wildfire Defense Systems (WDS) is a service that reduces the risk of fire damage to your home before a wildfire arrives. WDS will take preventative measures to improve your home’s fire resilience if your home is threatened by an active wildfire. We offer WDS services to eligible properties.

WDS services may include:

Temporarily relocating flammable materials such as propane tanks, firewood, outdoor furniture to reduce the risk of ignition
Clearing brush/vegetation and pruning trees and shrubs
Ensuring doors, windows, garages are closed
Applying a biodegradable, non-toxic fire retardant on combustible material
Creating a buffer around structures on your property

Heads up! Accessing your property to carry out this service is based on safety, weather conditions and proximity to the wildfire. There’s no guarantee that WDS will be able to protect your home.

Am I eligible for WDS services?
Wildfire Defense Systems services are available to customers in specific locations throughout Alberta and British Columbia only. This includes:

Properties in Alberta including homes and seasonal/rental homes located below the 57th parallel line
Properties in British Columbia including homes and seasonal/rental homes located below the 57th parallel line, excluding all islands other than Vancouver Island

Unfortunately, condos, tenants and mobile homes are excluded from this service.

If your home or rental home qualifies, this service will be automatically added to your policy. You can log in to your account to view this coverage or find out how to start a policy change to remove it.

Sonnet Pet is distributed under a distribution network agreement by Sonnet Insurance Company and is underwritten by Petline Insurance Company. Products are available to residents of B.C., Alberta, Ontario, Québec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and P.E.I. and provide coverage to eligible pets. All coverage described is subject to the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions contained in our Policy Wordings. In the event of a discrepancy, your policy wording governs.

*Complimentary one-year membership to TELUS Health Virtual Care is available to the primary named insured on a Sonnet property or auto policy. Offer is limited to one Sonnet account with at least one active home or auto insurance policy. The primary named insured’s partner, spouse and any dependents under the age of twenty-six may also use the TELUS Virtual Health Care membership. Offer does not extend to the purchase of a Sonnet Pet Insurance policy. Offer is not available to residents of New Brunswick. Note that controlled substances cannot be prescribed by TELUS Health Virtual Care.

Sonnet Insurance offers online home and auto insurance to residents of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and P.E.I. In B.C. and Alberta we offer online home insurance. Unfortunately, we’re not able to service Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland & Labrador and the territories, or Alberta or B.C. auto insurance customers at this time.
